Deep Space is My Home

All civilizations become either spacefaring or extinct.
Carl Sagan · Astronomer, astrophysicist, and science communicator
Exploration is in our nature. We began as wanderers, and we are wanderers still.
Carl Sagan · Astronomer, astrophysicist, and science communicator
I don’t think the human race will survive the next thousand years unless we spread into space.
Stephen Hawking · Theoretical physicist, cosmologist, and author.
Our only chance of long-term survival is not to remain inward-looking on planet Earth, but to spread out into space.

Story

Thirty-eight chromosomes, a hundred billion neurons, nano robots in the blood, and one starship. That is the complete inventory of Tomcat’s household.

The settling of the galaxy gave Cats a thousand ways to live: orbital cities, ocean cities, wild plains, homes on living asteroids. Tomcat tried none of them. He chose the road itself — the permanent roam between the stars, where the nearest neighbour is a light year away and the third cargo dock makes an excellent concert hall, because nobody can complain about the volume.

The CyberCats call him their founder. He calls that an administrative error: a Cat who is against all hierarchy cannot be the head of one. The title stuck anyway. Legends do not take dictation.

Deep Space Is My Home is his saga, written by himself, about himself — happiness measured not in arrivals but in motion. A doom-rock magnum opus from the loneliest, freest Cat in the galaxy.

Tale

The settling of the nearest stars
took thousands of years.
The journeys themselves
lasted decades — sometimes centuries.

Wherever the Cats arrived,
they founded perfect civilisations.

But some Cats
chose another path:
to stay eternal wanderers,
always moving,
toward unknown horizons.
Alone.

Deep space became their new home.

Lyrics

Deep Space is my home
Thirty eight chromosomes
One hundred billion neurons
Plus in my blood are nano robots
I’m a simple space Cat
My name is Tomcat
I’m half-automatic
And my life is a magnum opus

Planets in space
Populated by thousands of races
Cat races and Ape races
And even together
Even dolphins have home
A nice zero gravity home
Cozy and safe orbits home
Designed forever

Space and darkness ahead,
Behind the stars is tiny led
New knowledge or dread
Who can resist deep space calling?
I‘m moving to my goal
Around a double black hole
Via Dolphin Patrol
To new stars my ship is crawling

This is the only way for me
In the vast galaxy sea
Only way to be free
In this nice Universe
And every my act
It’s my tool, my parallax
To see the Universe in facts
As cosmical dance...

Start self-checkup
Optimistic setup
Milky-tea cup
Who’s my contender?
quick brain warm-up
My mind’s clean-up
Never give up
Never surrender

Galaxy light
my life is a fight
Like a striped knight
knowledge defender
My ship is bright
In perpetual flight
A mote in the night
An everywhere outlander

I’m playing hard rock
At the third cargo dock
Every day at five o‘clock
Just because it’s amazing
No one can hear
Nearest planet’s away in light year
Deep space clean and clear

Deep Space is my home
My life a permanent roam
Billions of stars are my dome
Now and forever
My spaceship’s in the stream
Exactly like in my dream
Me and my ship, we’re a team
Roaming together

Deep Space is my home
Deep Space is my home
Deep Space is my home
